In a move aimed at tackling long waiting times and curbing the resale of driving test appointments, the DVSA will soon restrict test bookings to learner drivers themselves. The change is designed to prevent third-party resellers and automated bots from exploiting the system and inflating prices.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander stated that the new measures would help protect learners from being “exploited” by online booking scams. However, she acknowledged to the Transport Select Committee that the government is unlikely to meet its target of reducing average waiting times to seven weeks by summer 2026.
As of the end of June, the national average wait for a driving test stood at around 22 weeks.
